Most shul software sells you the gabbai tools and then charges again for the parts your members actually touch. We do the opposite. The free tier is bounded by how many members you have — not by which features you get — and the business is built on the giving rails rather than the subscription line. Only the office-heavy pieces a small shul does not run yet sit on the top plan. The one cost that can appear outside a plan is AI use past its free monthly allowance, and only for a shul that has put a card on file for it.

The part other people bury
There is also a platform fee on money that moves through Shuli — donations, pledges, sponsorships, tickets. It is 0% during the pilot and settles at 1.5–2% after that, on top of whatever your own Stripe account charges to process a card. Donor-covers-fees is on by default, so in practice most of it is paid by the giver.
Separately from that fee, a giving page asks the donor whether they would like to add something for Shuli on top of their gift. It arrives with an amount already suggested, and the donor can set it to zero in one tap. It is added to what the donor pays — never taken out of what your shul receives, and your shul is credited the full gift either way. While the platform fee is 0%, this is the only money Shuli earns on a donation, and only when a donor chooses to leave it.
And one thing you can be charged for directly: the AI assists. Every shul gets a free allowance of AI each month, on us. If you never add a card, the assists simply stop when it runs out and the rest of Shuli carries on — nothing is billed, ever. If you do add a card, use past the allowance is billed to it once a month at our at-cost rate for those calls — set to track our provider’s pricing, with nothing added on top. It is a pass-through by design, not a product line. The running total sits on your settings page while the month is still going.
We would rather earn when your appeal succeeds than charge a shul of twenty families $129 a month for software it is only half using. That is the whole reason the free tier is a real product and not a crippled demo — and it is why the money lands in your shul's own Stripe account, never ours.
Questions people actually ask
- What does the free tier actually leave out?
- Nothing that Community has. The free tier is bounded by size — up to 25 members — not by features, so free and Community carry exactly the same product and growing into Community never gains you a feature, only room. A minyan of fifteen gets the same Shabbos gate, the same kiddush board, the same pledge flow and the same giving rails an established shul gets. When you pass 25, nobody is locked out of anything they already have; you are simply asked to pick a plan before the next person joins.
- So what is actually only on Full Shul?
- Six things, and they are the ones a shul with an office runs: Yamim Noraim seating with a seat map, kibbudim auctions, appeals with matchers, the chavership form, comp and promo codes, and the office's analytics page. Everything a member touches — davening times, the weekly sheet, chat, the Rav, giving, pledges, kiddush, events, yahrzeits, the directory — is on every plan including free.
- Is there a trial?
- Yes — and it starts when you pick a paid plan, not when you sign up: every shul is set up on the free tier first. Then it is sixty days of the full paid plan, and a real trial — every feature, unlimited members, and no plan charge until it ends. The one exception is the AI assists: if you choose to put a card on file so they can run past their free monthly allowance, that card is billed for that AI use, during the trial as after it. Cancel from the billing portal at any point and you are back on the free tier, with your data untouched.
- What is the platform fee?
- A small percentage on money that moves through the platform — donations, pledges, sponsorships, tickets. It is 0% during the pilot and settles at 1.5–2% after that, on top of the card processing your own Stripe account charges. - Because it lets the subscription stay small and the free tier stay real. We would rather earn when your appeal succeeds than charge a shul of twenty families $129 a month for software. It also means our incentive is the same as yours: build giving rails that actually work.
- Do we sign a contract?
- No. Self-serve, month to month, cancel yourself from the billing portal. Your data exports to CSV whenever you want it, whether you are leaving or not.
- Who owns the money?
- You do, directly. Donations land in your shul's own Stripe account — we are never the merchant of record and your money never sits with us.
